Forageplus™ can devise bespoke horse feed plans using forage analysis of grass, hay and haylage. We have extensive experience in calculating horse feeding needs using scientific analysis and the daily nutrient levels set by the National Research Council for horses of all ages and type.
You will need forage analysis for us to calculate a horse feed plan for you. You can either buy analysis from us or you can send grass, hay or haylage tests you have had done elsewhere to us so that we can calculate from these.
If you wish us to calculate a feed plan for you just make payment on the website. A plan normally takes about 10-14 days for us to devise. We always advise people to wait until we have seen your forage reports however before you buy a feed plan because may reports fall into a statistical average which means that a feed plan is not always necessary. Where possibly unless the reports show an unusual profile of minerals or your horse is needing greater support because it is prone to laminitis we do not need you to purchase a feed plan.
When formulating a feed plan for you we may need both mineral and nutritional analysis if you want to be sure of maintaining your horse at the correct weight, have a horse in heavy work or have a horse where maintaining good health, healthy hooves and healthy muscles has been a challenge. Many customers however only need to carry out a full mineral analysis.
We will need your horse’s details and will email you our information collection sheet once you have made payment. This sheet will ask you questions such as your horse’s weight, age, health history and work level.Using Forageplus horse feed plans to create a balanced diet for all horsesClick To Tweet
If you order a horse feed plan from us we will look at your report in detail and advise you exactly which minerals you need and in what quantities. Our feed plans include an explanation of the forage reports, a detailed recipe and feed suggestions unique to your horse on its forage and other information such as how much salt to feed for sweat loss whilst exercising. Each plan will give you a choice of either feeding by scoop or by batch mix or a combination of scoops and a balancer. We will supply the scoops you need and instructions on how to create your own custom supplement using separate minerals and vitamins.
We are happy to work with customers to use what ever concentrate feed or separates suit them and their horse. We also supply advice on what concentrates and bagged feed will match your mineral profile including information on amounts to feed depending on the work level and age of your horse.
This service is very useful for horses prone to laminitis or elderly horses with weight maintenance issues. We can guide you carefully to feed exactly the right amount of hay or feed for exact weight control at the same time as making sure protein and all the minerals need for a healthy horse are present at the right level.
These plans are also particularly useful for young horses, pregnant or lactating mares giving foals the very best start in life with accurate ‘forage focused’™ supplements. Knowing the protein level and mineral balance in the diet of breeding mares and growing young horses is vitally important for healthy growth.
