Description
Seaweed for horses can be used to supply levels of iodine in the equine diet. Iodine can be low in forage analysis but is crucial in small amounts for healthy equine metabolism, proper growth and development, and overall health.
Our Hebridean organic seaweed (ascophyllum nodosum) is a type of seaweed, harvested in the cold clear waters of the outer hebrides and is one of the best sources of iodine for your horse. Only living weed is harvested and it is carefully processed so that nothing of an artificial nature is added. It is 100% natural, plant derived and is organically certified.
Some horse grass, hay or haylage will be short of iodine so we will sometimes advise supplementation of small levels of seaweed for horses to boost iodine levels in the equine diet.
We do not advise the feeding of seaweed for horses as a general broad spectrum supplement for the reasons outlined in this article.
Please note that all our equine balancers including our performance range now contain iodine in the form of potassium iodide for optimum health. The levels are based on statistical analysis of data gained from our analysis of forage and reference to NRC guidelines.

Great product that lasts for ages as I only need to feed a small amount.

Following analysis of the hay I am feeding, I need to slightly boost iodine. ForagePlus have calculated that I only need 2.5g per day of their Hebridean Organic Seaweed to achieve this. It’s easy to use and readily eaten. Perfect!
