Topline Plus is a high-quality topline horse feed and protein supplement, containing a blend of both potato and pea protein. It is suitable for anyone looking for high-quality, cost-effective equine supplement to improve muscle development or topline maintenance.

Topline Plus is an excellent way to increase crude protein in the daily diet. At under 1% in both sugar and starch combined, Topline Plus is suitable for even the most sensitive of horses.

It can be included in the daily bucket feed for all types of horses, including those in moderate to heavy workloads, those looking to improve muscle status or those that are prone to laminitis.

The amino acid profile of this topline supplement is excellent. It is rich in ‘branched-chain amino acids (leucine, isoleucine, valine) as well as the other essential amino acids which are crucial for muscle development, muscle tone, body condition and muscle mass.

What is Horse Topline?

The term ‘topline’ is used to describe the muscles which run down the top of the horse’s neck, along the back and over the hindquarters. As true topline consists largely of muscle (as opposed to fat), the two essential ingredients are protein and an appropriate exercise regime.

Why Feed a Topline Horse Feed?

Some forages are low in available protein and a range of amino acids due to a complicated interaction between nitrogen and Sulphur levels in the soil. Many horses benefit from an increase in protein for muscle development.

Extra protein can help with poor topline but also lethargy problems and poor hoof and skin quality. Topline Plus enables you to target supplementation without including extra calories and can suppress overeating from good doer types. Your horse can therefore continue to enjoy ad-lib hay without the added di concerns that feeding more compound feed would entail.

Naturally contains 85.9% protein.

Which horses will benefit from the addition of Topline Plus?

  • Good doer horses on a reduced hay ratio needing a lower body condition score.
  • Horses with poor top-line or body condition that need to build muscle.
  • Laminitis prone horses needing a very low sugar and starch protein source due to high sugar sensitivity.
  • Older horses which are struggling to maintain top line and body condition score.
  • Horses that have access to low protein levels in the forage they are eating, can be determined from a nutritional and mineral analysis of hay or haylage.
  • Horses on a pure winter grass diet when protein levels can be low and contribute to hoof and skin issues.
  • Horses with poor hoof wall connection and or cracks. Barefoot horses in particular will benefit with stronger soles and white line connection.
  • Horses on a heavy exercise program.
  • Young horses on a forage-based diet needing protein for optimum growth.
  • In foal or nursing mares on a forage-based diet who need high protein requirements.

All my three horses have been on Topline Plus this winter. It has certainly helped to keep their feet in good condition despite the constant wet weather

  2. Louise Deitch (verified owner)

I’ve been using this for a few months now and it’s really making a difference to my pony’s appearance and his energy levels, it’s also helping with his hooves, very pleased with this product.

    Really good product

  4. naomi sanger (verified owner)

After having time off for an injury my mare lost a lot of her topline…. Working her and feeding Topline plus she is now looking amazing.

  5. TanyaManser (verified owner)

This has been successfully adding protein to my laminitic Arabian’s diet, without compromising the reduction of her EMS-induced high insulin levels. 6 months down the line, both my vet and farrier are pleased with her recovery. Thank you ForagePlus.

  6. Carina Alcock (verified owner)

My horse has Wobblers Syndrome. After some research I discovered high doses of Natural VitE are really good for neuro symptoms in horses so began the search. Alongside finding what I needed, I also found multiple other products with Forage Plus that he could, and does, benefit from.

  7. Briony Bunch (verified owner)

Added Topline plus at the recommended rate to my pony’s diet when he had laminitis and was eating only soaked hay as forage. He had had locking patellae when young and this problem returned when his diet lacked protein. A few weeks on the Topline plus and the patella locking improved vastly. Also the “footiness” following the laminitis has disappeared and he is back to normal. I will certainly continue to feed this along with the winter balancer from now on. Great product!

  8. Debra Watts (verified owner)

This is a great product for ensuring that my elderly horse with PPID is having enough protein. She’s 31 and looking incredible on the diet suggested by Forage Plus. It’s also great for my two good-doers, who have their hay soaked.

  9. Bryony Goodwin (verified owner)

I was advised to feed this product along with the summer hoof and skin balancer as my horse has extremely poor hoof quality. Too early to see an improvement in his feet but he looks super shiny and well on it. Hopefully as I continue to feed these two supplements I will see an improvement in his hoof quality.
Excellent service from forage plus too.

  10. Claire Baxter (verified owner)

Really happy with this product, my 26 year old is doing so well on it.

  11. Sarahw126 (verified owner)

I have noticed an improvement in topline after including topline plus in my horse’s diet. I struggle to get enough protein in his diet as I try to avoid all the manufactured/highly processed feeds. This is a great addition to topping up fees value.
He is very fussy and at first he didn’t seem keen even a small amount, but within several days he now eats the recommended amount without complaint.

  12. Viv (verified owner)

I wanted to add some protein to my horses diet seeing as he’s on forage only and minimal grass,he does have a pot belly and is constantly ravenous ,it’s early days but it’s looking promising so far,he doesn’t seem so hungry and I’m hoping the belly will reduce too,I’ll review again in a few weeks, the powder didn’t smell and it mixes in well to his wet feed,he licks his bowl clean.

  13. srmcnally98 (verified owner)

I found this very useful during the last trimester of my mare’s pregnancy, and also when she was nursing her foal. It was a great way to add the extra protein required, and was palatable as well.

  14. Kara McKee (verified owner)

My pregnant mare does great on Topline plus. It is giving her all the extra protein she needs on top of what is already in her diet. I believe she would be struggling without this.

  15. Claire Baxter (verified owner)

My horse has been on this product 2 months now and I’m really pleased with the results.

  16. Claire Baxter (verified owner)

This product was recommended by a friend, really pleased with the results so far.

  17. Vanessa Clewlow (verified owner)

I bought this product to assist in building top line for our Advanced Dressage horse who is coming back into work after a period of illness. He can be a fussy eater but this product is very palatable. He has been on the product for 3 weeks and I can see an improvement.

  18. Kathryn Harris (verified owner)

I was recommended to feed this to my young horse by one of the advisers on the site. She’s only been on this for 2 weeks so it’s hard to see any really difference yet but she is eating it well and hopefully as I continue to feed it I will see improvements in the quality of her feet and also the extra protein will help build strong healthy tissue as she grows

  19. Carrie Place (verified owner)

I’m finding this product great with helping in the strength of hoof, hair & skin for both my Donkey & Pony. I can see a real difference having added this to their diet during the winter months in 2020 continuing it now. My Pony gets aggressive with food, adding a little of this Protein helps him feel full without overfeeding him. In turn, it helps him remain calm. My donkey’s feet have been really bad in the past. Since using all Forageplus supplements, specific to her the hoof material & structure has become stronger. It will take a long time as the journey for her is a long one but the Protein & other additions really make a difference. Compared to other products I’ve used over the past 15 years, these really work from the inside out. Thanks for the great products.

  20. Kalpana Peigne (verified owner)

Cannot believe how good this product is for my two horses who are constantly starving. Their grumpiness has gone and they eat like they have all the time (and food) in the world. I even called the vet initially as their personalities changed so much! This is going to be an absolute staple in their diets, and I even have the confidence to try giving ad-lib hay a go, which I just couldn’t risk before this.

My competition mare has this to build up and maintain her Topline during the start of the season in February/ March time when forage is still scarce from the winter weather. It works brilliantly 😁

  22. JTippers (verified owner)

I like to keep my good-doer ID on as-lib hay to make sure that he never goes without while indoors (hay tends to be low in protein) – this is great for boosting his protein to ensure he is satisfied and doesn’t over eat.

My barefoot pony can be “footy” on stony ground, particularly during the winter. Advised that this can be a sign of inadequate good protein intake as a side effect of a very low sugar/starch diet. He’s been on Topline Plus for a couple of months now and is definitely more comfortable on stony ground – whilst this may also be a consequence of the much drier weather I shall continue with the supplement as the difference is noticeable!
