If your horse drinks spring, pond, river, stream or borehole water you may want to consider analysis to check mineral levels. The mineral composition of drinking water can have a profound effect on horse health, particularly metabolic disorders.
Forageplus water analysis for horses gives a full mineral profile of horse drinking water, see the elements tab for minerals included.
The mineral composition of drinking water can be an important consideration when formulating diets for horses or investigating metabolic disorders, especially laminitis. This is because water can provide a significant level of both essential and antagonistic elements. If your water source is from a spring or borehole then it makes intelligent sense to check levels to ensure the optimum nutrients are being ingested. Some water can be particularly high in iron, manganese or aluminium. Our mineral analysis covers 16 elements and gives you important information on water pH plus comments to aid interpretation.
We offer two tests, standard and extended standard. Please see the Elements tab for more information.
Once you have ordered we send a kit with full instructions on how to test your horse’s drinking water through the post.
We can include the results in formulating a bespoke feed plan for your horse. Where high levels of some minerals cause oxidative stress in the body we can then increase the levels of anti-oxidants fed, notably selenium, copper and vitamin E, thus improving and optimising health. This test is carried out by a UKAS-accredited laboratory.
