ECIR Group Recommended

Suitable for Laminitis-Prone Horses

This balancer is recommended by the ECIR Group and aligns with the forage-based feeding principles commonly used for horses requiring carefully controlled sugar and starch intake.

Low sugar & starch Suitable for restricted diets Mineral-balanced nutrition Forage-based approach
Why this matters: The ECIR Group is internationally recognised for promoting evidence-based nutritional approaches for horses requiring careful dietary management.

Our Young Horse Summer horse feed balancer has been specifically formulated for supplementation of young stock, from weanlings up to the age of 5.

The formula has been carefully devised using our own unique analytical data from the thousands of grass, hay and haylage samples that we test each year.

Containing optimum levels of high-quality minerals for growing youngsters, as directed by the National Research Councils guidelines.

This balancer covers the commonly deficient minerals, vitamins and amino acids found to be needed to match ratios in the hay or grass your horse eats.

This approach supports optimum, healthy growth in all young horses and develops resilient, robust healthy adults.

How to feed the balancer?

All of our Balancers are powders, very low in sugar and starch and free from any fillers, bulking agents or additives.

We use the highest-purity minerals and vitamins, ensuring against contamination from heavy metals, and maximising absorption rates.

All of our balancers are best carried in a high-fibre, fast-soak fibre of your choice.

We have a handy video here on how to best feed the balancer.

If your horse is on reduced or restricted grazing, or a hay/haylage only diet, then opting for the winter version of this balancer would be best.

Additional Information

Forageplus recommends this horse supplement is used with access to green and growing pasture plus the straights; alfalfa, beet pulp, wheat bran and or copra. The feeding of these straights will compliment both the balancer and the general profile of forage in the UK and Europe whilst adding useful additional major minerals, trace minerals and protein.

For horses above the age of two, supplementing with additional salt at 10 – 25 grams per day may also be beneficial to support healthy growth. This will ensure excellent levels of sodium, supporting the healthy growth of bones.

Where young horses need further support of the hoof wall, white line and frog or skin, we recommend the use of both our B-Vitamin Plus and the additional Essential Amino Acids in the daily diet.

Please note that to be completely sure that your youngstock is receiving optimum levels of protein and minerals, Forageplus advises both a nutritional and mineral analysis of the forage being fed so we can check levels for you.

This product is particularly useful for those unable to take forage samples for analysis or those wishing to add further products from a base that contains no iron or manganese but good levels of copper and zinc.
