About Mark Johnson Dip WCF

Mark is a UK farrier of over 30 years who has devoted many thousands of hours to learning about functional horse hoof health. He has a large farriery practise around the Oxfordshire area (and sometimes beyond!) and uses many diverse techniques to return horses hooves to optimum function and health.

Mark has been involved in dissecting horses’ limbs for many years and as a practising farrier he says he can’t begin to describe the value this has given to him on understanding hoof health with respect to considering blood flow, leverage, positioning and development of internal structures in reference to external pathology. Hoof dissection has enabled him to ponder what stops the foot performing and what can be done to change this from a practical, hands on hoof care perspective.

Unfortunately as science is so lacking regarding horses feet, he often finds that there remain way more questions than answers but for Mark the sharing of observation, thoughts and experiences has proved to be highly beneficial.

On this day then, Mark and Forageplus would love you to be part of a day of discussion and observation about the way that hoof anatomy and dissection of a horse’s lower limb can take us on a ‘journey’ from the exterior hoof to the internal structure of the foot. This journey will lead to a greater understanding of both lower limb health and pathology.
